Aviemore Winter Sunshine over Cairngorm Mountain.
A great place for information and photos on the Scottish Mountains is Winter Highland. http://www.winterhighland.info/general/ Their report for conditions on Cairngorm today looks good, and cheap, for those on the mountain.
"Cairngorm Mountain continue their sixties revival weekend on Monday with the opportunity to ski or board for just 20 shillings (that will be £1 in new money)!
Cairngorm Mountain's "ski for a pound" offer (ski tickets and funicular tickets, but excluding hire, lessons and the sledge park) looks like coinciding with some good sunny weather and a couple of inches of fresh snow! So if your supposed to be back at work or school, there's a bit of a 24hour bug going round! It will be chilly though, around -5°c at the top so wrap up well.
On the weather front steady mostly light snow has been coming in over the Northern Cairngorms with some showers getting to the South towards Glenshee. At time of update some beefier showers are floating about the Northern 'Gorms and with steady snow falling at close of play on Sunday the Ski Road to CairnGorm is closed overnight. However winds at lower levels are light so there shouldn't be a problem with the road in the morning.
One thing to watch on the roads though is for ice early Monday, it's been raining below about 1500 to 2000ft in temperatures close to freezing and as the shower cloud clears during the night temps will fall back giving a risk of ice, so please take care.
On the slopes the new snow has made a big difference in terms of freshening up the surface conditions, so while the open terrain remains relatively limited, with good overhead forecast Monday should offer some decent early season sport at the three Eastern Areas, with CairnGorm able to offer 1300ft of vertical.
