Steam Train from Aviemore to Boat of Garten the Strathspey Railway.
The Strathspey Steam Railway
Broomhill Station was used in the filming of 'Monarch of the Glen' by Ecosse Films for the BBC as ‘Glen Bogle Station’. For more information about the series and locations used visit the Monarch of the Glen Country Website
The Strathspey Steam Railway runs from Boat of Garten to Aviemore and from the Boat to Broomhill.
Originally part of the Great North of Scotland railway route from Aviemore to Aberdeen and the Highland Railway's original main line to Inverness, via Grantown on Spey, Dava Moor and Forres, the line was closed under the infamous Beeching Ax before being brought back into use by the Strathspey Railway Company.
The line was extended to Broomhill in 2002 and will eventually go to Grantown on Spey.
You can start your steam train journey at Aviemore or Boat of Garten, there is plenty of parking available in the station car parks.
Alternatively, why not break your train journey at Boat of Garten to visit our Community Garden, walk through our delightful woodlands or alongside the River Spey and refresh yourselves at one of the hotels or at the Post Office.
The walk back to Aviemore along the Speyside Way (approx 6 miles) passes through a variety of woodland and moorland habitats and offers wonderful views of the Cairngorms and the Monadhliath mountains.
Cyclists may bring their bikes on the train and cycle through the woods to RSPB Loch Garten (3 miles) where there is a great variety of suitable routes. You can pick up the SUSTRANS network here or explore our woodlands and quiet roads.
