The Start of a Great Day out In the Scottish Highlands Climbing Cairngorm then over to Ben Macdui.

Setting off up Cairngorm Mountain on a Family Day out in the Mountains of Cairngorm National Park. After climbing Cairngorm we crossed the Cairngorm Plateau to Ben Macdui, then back past the Northern Corries to complete the loop. A seven hour tramp in the wilderness seeing only a handful of other people.

If you would like to explore the Highlands of Scotland, we can assure you that if you stay at Lochan Mor Lodge, or Creag Mhor you will have a very special holiday.

Summer bloom on the Cairngorm Plateau in the Scottish Highlands

Summer bloom on the Cairngorm Plateau in the Scottish Highlands.

The harsh mountain habitat of the cairngorm peaks is home to a unique and rare variety of flora and fauna.

Protection of this landscape through having national park status is justified as 39% of the park has been officially designated as important for nature heritage, 25% of these areas being of European importance.

Across the Cairngorm Plateau to Ben Macdui a great Day Out in the Scottish Mountains

Across the Cairngorm Plateau to Ben Macdui a great Day Out in the Scottish Mountains.

A walk up Cairngorm mountain followed by a treck across the Cairngorm Plateau takes you out to Ben Macdui, the second highest mountain in Scotland. Even in the summer months you can find patches of snow up there. Allow 7 to 8 hours for the trip and check that the weather is fine. Things can change pretty quickly up there.

May and June are often the best time of year to get out and about in the Highlands of Scotland, some great weather and the dreaded midgies have not yet hit their stride.

Aviemore Walking Festival enjoy the Great Outdoors in the Scottish Highlands

Aviemore Walking Festival enjoy the Great Outdoors in the Scottish Highlands.

Aviemore and the Cairngorms Walking and Mountain Festival - The Friendly Festival.

Aviemore nestles in the broad expanse of the Strath of the mighty River Spey, between the stunning beauty of the mountains in the Cairngorm massif and the haunting magic of the Monadhliath mountains - both with their caps of spring snow. Crystal rivers and lochs sparkle from the shadow of the Caledonian Pine Forests while the moors and peat hags cast their own special spells.

Aviemore is holding their sixth Aviemore Walking Festival which will take place from 9th to 16th May 2009.

The events take place within the beautiful scenery of the Cairngorms National Park.

The programme offers great variety from short leisurely strolls through forests and along river and loch banks to more strenuous hill walks to the mountains over 4,000 feet high. These include Cairngorm, Ben Macdui, Braeriach and also many of the local munros.

We can assure you that if you stay at Lochan Mor Lodge, or Creag Mhor you will have a very special holiday.

A Cairngorm Mountain Refuge with just some patches of Snow left on the Scottish Hillside

A Cairngorm Mountain Refuge with just some patches of Snow left on the Scottish Hillside.

The warm Spring Weather has now melted most of the snow and there will only be a few Ski Days left on Cairngorm Mountain. A great time of year to enjoy walking in the Mountains. I came across this shelter while walking in the Eastern part of Cairngorm National Park.

We can assure you that if you stay at Creag Mhor or Lochan Mor Lodge, it will be a lot more comfortable.

Aviemore Cairngorm Mountain the sixth Highest Mountain in Scotland a good family climb

Aviemore Cairngorm Mountain the sixth Highest Mountain in Scotland a good family climb.

When the weather is suitable, Cairngorm Mountain makes a great family day out and a relatively easy climb, in good weather you have the security of the developed ski area and the possibility of refreshment in the Ptarmigan at the top of the Funicular Railway to celebrate success.
Combining this on a circuit of first climbing Ben Macdui, the second highest mountain in Scotland, makes it a harder 7-8 hour day and well worth that celebratory drink at the Ptarmigan.

Situated at the Heart of the Cairngorms National Park, pretty much right in the Centre of Scotland, ideally placed for exploring the immediate area and day-tripping to the surrounding areas, these top quality houses provide the ideal location for your holiday.

You will find lots to do, walk, climb, cycle, fish, golf, ski, snow board, cultural and family activities. Whisky tours and wild life tours are available, a full spectrum of activities.

Come and stay at Creag Mhor or Lochan Mor Lodge, great self catering accommodation.
